Mirapakaya starring Ravi Teja packs a punch. It is on-your-face entertainment. Director Harish Shankar by and large has rectified the mistakes he made in the earlier Ravi Teja starrer Shock. He errs in a weak climax though. But till then he has ensured that Ravi Teja has you hooked properly.
What’s it about: Rishi (Ravi Teja) is a cop on a mission to hunt down Kittu Bai (Prakash Raj). In the line of duty he is shifted to Hyderabad as an undercover cop, and is placed as a Hindi professor in a college owned by Kittu's henchman Shankar Anna (Kota Srinivasa Rao). In the college he falls in love with a student Vinamra (Richa Gangopadhaya)and just as love blooms he is summoned by his boss and asked to romance Vaishali (Deeksha Seth) who is the daughter of Kittu bai. The rest of the story is about Rishi riding two romantic boats and roughing up, arresting the baddie Kittu.
What is Good: A slimmed down Ravi Teja simmers. His performance has attitude and his presence has the "oomph factor." The fight sequence with Shankar Anna's goons while directing traffic is among the best fights choreographed in the recent past. Screen play by Harish has a few trademark one-liners that are tailor made for Ravi Teja’s style of dialogue delivery. Richa and Deeksha are good and just about hold their own in the dance sequences. Ravi Teja's romancing of Richa is done interestingly. Music director Taman delivers foot tapping numbers and the title song is sure to top the charts for a while. Sunil and Chandramohan are adequate in their support roles. Kota Srinivas Rao as the villain Shankar Anna provides a few chuckles with his Telengana accent. Harish's screen play by and large is hero-centric, and to that extent has delivered.
What is bad: Weak characterization of Kittu Bai is likely to be the film's weakest link. This is the same mistake that Harish made in Shock. This time too he errs, in diluting the villainy in favour of a two-track romance. Even as the film is well into the second half the hero is seen playing the routine track of trying to romance two heroines. This results in a slightly slow second-half. A villain like Prakash Raj has to be given screen space. Harish in this aspect should learn from what Puri did in Pokiri. He enhanced Mahesh's heroism by strengthening Prakash Raj's villainy. It is the oldest trick in the movie trade. Hope Harish learns it sooner than later.
Final Point: Mirapakaya, at the end of the day is pure Tollywood tamasha. It’s a Ravi Teja movie and he never disappoints a fan who is in search of some good old fun. And what’s more it is festival time and a few laughs will definitely do you a world of good.
